The primary goal of the Ardeer Community Playground Committee Inc. (ACPC) is to design and construct a community built park on the existing poorly developed Forrest St playground site. Mary Jeavons Landscape Architects has been engaged to work with our local community to create a child friendly open space that integrates the play spaces with landscaped gardens. The aims of the project are to: Achieve a park design that will meet the needs of the local residents of Ardeer, including children of all ages and abilities, their families, carers, and older people; Develop a park planning guide that can be used by Brimbank City Council to assist community groups wanting to conduct a similar project in their local area; and To build our community. We have many social problems in this area and we have very poor open spaces and playgrounds. We believe that young children need access to local well-constructed play spaces to foster their development. Many of the social problems experienced by older children and their families could be assisted by having attractive communal places to go, and the opportunity to interact with others. Our committee feels strongly that the process of our community being involved in designing, planning and building the park will create ownership of the space, develop a sense of safety, create friendships across different cultural groups, develop personal skills and generate social connection within Ardeer. “To unite and strengthen our
community in working to provide a place

and abilities can congregate
